Character History:

(The Wikias seem to have phishing issues recently, and so I have written out a history. This is just so mods are aware for future apps!)

Newt was born in England in 1897. He has one older brother, a war hero by the name of Theseus, his mother who bred Hippogriffs, and an unknown father. So his interest in magical creatures started at a young age, when he was sometimes found in his room dissecting horklumps. At eleven, he was accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and sorted into Hufflepuff.

During his time in Hogwarts, he befriended a fellow 'outcast' Leta Lestrange. He went out of his way to console her after a lesson of DADA in which her boggart (a magical creature that assumes ones greatest fear) had left her disturbed and shaken, showing her where bowtruckles nested on the school grounds since they knew him.

His favorite subject was, unsurprisingly, Care of Magical Creatures. While he was a student, he received detention for telling one of his professors, who had questioned his interest in magical creatures, that there were 'no strange creatures, just blinkered people." Leta joined him later by setting off a dungbomb under the professors desk.

Even further down the line, Leta had a magical creature (A Jarvey, a ferret-like creature capable of human speech) that she lost control of in school, risking the life of another student and breaking a wizarding law. To protect her, Newt took responsibility and was sentenced to being expelled from Hogwarts. Albus Dumbledore (Defense Against Dark Arts teacher then and future headmaster) argued on his behalf; though whether Newt remained in school and graduated or not is left unclear. However he was able to keep his wand and later found employment in the Ministry of Magic, leading to the presumption that he did graduate from Hogwarts.

At the Ministry, his work with magizoology was involved briefly during the first World War, where he was sent to work with Ukrainian Ironbelly dragons. The dragons would only respond to him though, making the project a failure. Beyond that he was only making two sickles a week (a sickle is worth somewhere between $6.00 and $30.00) with the Ministry so when the offer to study magical creatures and to write a book on them was offered to him, he leapt at it.

His studies for the book began when he was twenty-one, leading to eight years traveling and researching creatures for it until he ultimately ended up in New York to return a Thunderbird he'd rescued to its natural habitat.

(CUE MOVIE ONE)

Newt entered New York in late 1926, evading muggle (non-magical person, no-maj to the American wizarding community) examination of his case with a built in charm. He then proceeded to explore briefly until he came upon a group calling themselves the Second Salemers in front of a bank where Niffler escaped his case of magical creatures. Chasing it inside, he met Jacob who was pursuing a loan for his bakery. Accidentally leaving an Occamy egg on the bench beside the muggle, he continued to chase Niffler through the bank until spotting him sneaking down towards the safe. At that time, Jacob comes out and finds the egg hatching, calling out to Newt to alert him of it. Drawing his wand, Newt pulled Jacob and the egg towards him and then apparated onto the stairway down to the vault where it would be safe to let the egg hatch and settle it into his case. Then he chased down Niffler, caught him in the vault, and disapparated himself and Jacob out of the bank as security showed up.

Before he could obliviate him, Jacob grabbed his case (or what he thought was his) and cracked Newt in the head with it before fleeing. In that time, ex-Auror Tina Goldstein caught up to him and questioned him about Jacob, the Niffler, and subsequently arrested him, dragging him to MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America) headquarters. However, once there, he was swiftly released after Tina was sent on her way and they discovered the case Newt was carrying was full of donuts.

Meanwhile, Jacob has let the case open and been attacked by magical creatures, several evading capture throughout the rest of Newt's time in New York. Hunting him down, Newt repairs Jacob's apartment and seals his magical case and confirms that Jacob was bitten by a murtlap. For that reason, Tina forgoes a memory charm and takes both men home with here where they met her sister, a legilimens named Goldie.

After dinner and settling for bed, Newt sneaks into his case to feed all his creatures and invites Jacob inside, treating his murtlap bite while he's at it. And then he recruits Jacob's help in recovering all of his creatures. They sneak out that same night to hunt for creatures, recovering all but two (only knowing about one) before returning the the depth of the case and being trapped inside by Tina. She delivers them to MACUSA only to discover that a muggle has been killed. Upon releasing Newt and Jacob, Newt reveals that the muggle was killed by an Obscurus, a dark and parasitic creature that is usuallt found within repressed magical children. It always ends in their death, according to records. Tina and Newt are arrested then, questioned by Graves, and sentenced to death. They're partially rescued by Queenie and Jacob, after Pickett freed Newt from his restraints and he knocked out the MACUSA employees and saved Tina from the death pool.

On the run, they endeavor to recover the missing creatures to remove Graves ability to use them against Newt. They manage it in the end, discovering the Obscurus wreaking havoc as they return. Determined to put an end to it, and to save the Obscurial that they discover is the Second Salem boy, Newt chases after him to a Subway and starts to talk him down. Only to be attacked by Graves. This triggers Credence into another fit before Tina joins them and tries to talk him down. Only for MACUSA's aurors and the president to kill him. As Graves turns on them, Newt restrains him with Swooping Evil and deduces his identity, casting a revealing charm on him and revealing Gellert Grindelwald.

With half of New York destroyed, Newt releases Frank the Thunderbird with some Swooping Evil venom to erase the memories of the muggle populace while Aurors repair the city. Jacob's memories are also erased and Newt is ordered to leave New York. Just not before slipping the silver occamy eggs to Jacob so he can get his bakery and promising to deliver a copy of his book to Tina personally.

(CUE MOVIE TWO)

Unfortunately, after returning, Newt's right to travel internationally was revoked for the incident in New York (despite his involvement in solving the incident rather than causing) and his book was published. In an attempt to regain his rights to travel six months later, Newt was offered those rights back if he became an Auror and hunted down the very much not dead obscurial Credence Barebone and kill him. He refused and left, telling his brother he wouldn't choose a side and, after being hugged, his brother warned him that Newt was being watched.

Outside, an enchanted glove beckons him and apparates him to a rooftop where he comes face-to-face with his old teacher: Albus Dumbledore. They spend a great deal of time talk, avoiding Aurors, and eventually Dumbledore reveals the rumors that Credence may be a long-lost member of the Lestrange family. And asks Newt to go to Paris to find Credence. Newt, at first, refuses, but has some second thoughts as Dumbledore apparates away, leaving him with a card to find a safehouse in Paris. He doesn't decide to go but he kept the consideration in mind as he returned home and helped his assistant deal with the magic creatures he's caring for.

Amidst this however, there's a home invasion. As he investigates, he finds none other than Queenie and Jacob, whose memory charm had worn off. Newt realizes though that Queenie had Jacob under a love charm and removes it, reassuring her that if he wanted to be there, it would make no difference. It leads to the couple arguing however and Queenie running off to Paris to find Tina. Wanting to find Tina himself, and remembering Dumbledore's request, Newt packs up with Jacob and smuggles them out of the country.

In Paris, Newt finds a spot where Queenie had been, and uses one of his creatures to help track her along with enchanting a feather to find who she'd left with. This, unfortunately, gets him and Jacob caught, as Tina had been, by someone seeking to kill Credence. However, he faints and Picket frees them from where they're trapped. With nowhere else to go, he takes them to the safehouse which is home to none other than Nicholas Flamel. Newt removes a parasite from the fainted wizards eye before Grindelwald starts to summon his followers. With Tina's help after, and a Polyjuice potion of his brother, they sneak into the French Ministry of Magic to find the Lestrange family records, planning to confirm Credence's identity. They're quickly discovered by Theseus and Leta, and lead his brother on a chase to the Hall of Records. There, the record keeper lets them in, with the excuse that Tina is Leta. Inside, Newt confesses his feelings and that it was his brother and not him engaged to Leta before Leta tries to recover her family records.

After the three of them escape the Ministry, they go to find the records at the Lestrange family mausoleum where Grindelwald's followers are meeting. There, Leta confessed to accidentally causing her half-brothers death and removing any leads on who Credence really was. They then infiltrated Grindelwald's meeting, listening to him and finding Jacob and Queenie, witnessing Theseus' Aurors infiltrate the meeting and kill a witch. Using that to his advantage, Grindelwald denounced the wizarding world and invited everyone to join him by passing through cursed fire that would only allow his allies to pass through. Queenie joined him, to Jacob's regret, and Credence. Leta, in an attempt to stop him, was killed. In an attempt to stop the cursed fire from destroying Paris, the surviving wizards and witches, with Nicholas Flamel, put their skills together. Afterward, Newt assures his brother that he's chosen a side and recovered a slightly burned Niffler who stole a curious silver charm from Grindelwald.

Returning to Hogwarts later, Newt questioned Dumbledore on it being a blood pact to keep him and Grindelwald from fighting each other. And learns that Dumbledore just might be able to destroy it.

Character Personality:

Newt is, most importantly, socially awkward. More often than not, he'll have whole conversations where he doesn't look at the other person. He associates far better with magical creatures than he does with other people. To the point where he's awkward with most people, including his brother who tends to be the more affectionate of the two of them. He still very much cares about his brother though, and the people he calls his friends, even if he isn't the best at expressing it. Even to the point where he can only think to compare Tina's eyes to salamanders, and agrees to be the best man for his brother and Leta's wedding despite his lingering females for the woman.

He's also incredibly intelligent. As an alumnus of Hogwarts, Newt secured employment at the Ministry of Magic. He was involved in a confidential project to train Ukrainian Ironbellies during the First World War, speaking of his talent and loyalty. When the project failed, he found employment in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. His vast knowledge and experience with magical creatures propelled him forward within the Beast Division and earned him employment as a Magizoologist. And later a best selling author.

This however did not help or influence his confidence in any way as he was often, if not always, spoken of in the same breath as his brother. Even without the confidence though, Newt doesn't let anything stop him from pursuing his studies or stop him from doing what he believes is right, regardless of his own well-being.

Even so, he remains confident enough when it comes to his magical creatures and always compassionate. Newt's compassion isn't solely reserved for his creatures though, feeling for Credence when he learns that his mother would beat him or that he was an Obscurus. It's abundantly clear that his compassion spreads beyond his creatures when he tells Leta that he brothers death isn't her fault only to be told "You've never met a monster you couldn't love." It's possible, despite his distaste for Grindelwald, he could never truly hate the man.

He doesn't discriminate, has no issues with muggles, muggle borns, or otherwise. In fact, he appears insulted and disgusted to even be considered one of Grindelwald's fanatics. Wizard superiority is far from his thoughts, befriending and associating with them on a regular basis.

Put short: Newt is kind and compassionate, loyal and intelligent, awkward but determined. He is almost definition Hufflepuff by the Sort Hat's descriptions.

Powers and Abilities:

Magic: Both verbal and nonverbal. New can cast spells so long as he knows the incantation and has his wand with him.  LIST OF SPELLS

Apparition: Like many wizards, Newt can apparate and disapparate by focusing on where he wants to be and teleporting there. The act of appearing is considered apparating and leaving a location is disapparating.

Athleticism?: Newt played Quidditch while in Hogwarts as a Chaser. So he's capable of playing the game and flying on a broom. ("Are you a seeker? A seeker of truth?" "I'm more of a chaser really.")

Magizoologist: Newt is intelligent and talented when it comes to magical creatures, easily bonding and calming creatures that might otherwise be rampaging.

Herbology/Charms/Tranfiguration/DADA/Potions: All subjects covered in the Hogwarts curriculum that Newt was required to study. He shows his herbology skills when he treats Jacob's murtlap bite, charms with his bottomless suitcase, transfiguration skill when he removes Grindelwald's disguise as Percival Graves, Defense Against the Dark Arts in the flashback of handling a boggart, and potions with his polyjuice potion with his brothers hair.

Duelling: He duels Graves/Grindelwald in the New York subways while trying to calm Credence Barebone's in Obscurus form. Something few people can claim to have done successfully.

Magical/Creatures: He's very good creatures, magical and otherwise though his skills are predominantly practiced with magical creatures.

Samples

Network: I have a Network option on my TDM comment but if THIS is not sufficient, I'll be happy to write another.

Third Person:

Nautilus, however interesting in other ways, hadn't fascinated half so much as the creatures living there did. With a quill and notebook in hand, pockets full of treats and toys and anything else that might attract them, the magizooligist had set out.

Nobody would have been able to talk him out of it. There were creatures here! What if they appeared in England someday? Or his world in general! To get a head start on studying them would be an advantage, especially for future editions of Fantastic Beasts. Of course, he wasn't a complete fool. Some may argue that, his fascination with 'strange beasts' risking him encountering all sorts of dangerous creatures, but he wasn't a fool. Sometimes Newt found himself injured but that was why, at least back home, he'd kept all sorts of medicines in his case.

He had none of that now though. At least, he hadn't rebuilt his collection yet. So he wasn't foolish or terribly reckless. Theseus would be proud at least! The more dangerous of creatures he made sure to give a wide berth. The obviously dangerous ones anyway. And that was how Newt found himself covered in a couple dozen tribbles, all purring, and several pages of notes with a few sketches here and there.

And when they all eventually dispersed, realizing they'd get no food from the wizard, he took the opportunity to practice the 'bending' of this place. Newt, without a doubt, preferred his own magic though, his wand, being able to apparate and disapparate with relative ease...

He missed Pickett and Niffler. And Tina. And Jacob.
